The core idea

Every person, from children to adults, receives a large yearly allowance as a starting budget. The example amount given is one million dollars / pounds for the year.

That allowance is not meant to replace all work. After it is used, people are expected to earn the rest through work. The system is meant to be achievable over time: once it is introduced, people who have been off work for years can come back into it.

The longer-term aim is to clear a path toward a future in which AI and robots take on more of the labour, while people still have a guaranteed floor.

How the yearly allowance works

You receive a set allowance for the year.

It is paid automatically into your bank account.

Once that year’s allowance is spent, the next amount can be lower.

Amounts and entitlements can differ by country and by person (including disability payments and work-related entitlements).

If someone sends you an allowance, that too can be deposited automatically.

After money is spent, the system is designed to put the next entitlement back into the account without you having to chase it.
